So we have made it a few days in on the Whole30, we are doing it as a family and my kids are getting mad. My goal is to do it for the 30 days of courses, but then also keep the colors and a few additives out of our regular diet afterwards. I have researched the reaction to certain food colors and decided I want to give my kids the best chance, so for us they are now off limits! Which is so hard because that stuff is in everything! Even PICKLES! So there have been a few "WHY NOTS" and even more TEARS but I am staying strong on my stand, people lived for years without all this extra junk and I don't think it will hurt my kids to go without a granola bar or a pack of fruit snacks. Although I have a hard time explaining that to Grandma(my Mom). And our next challenge is Easter is coming, luckily I am having it at my house so I can control most of it, but Grandma is in charge of the egg hunt and so I do have to let the kids binge on color/candy for a few hours. So my take on that is that a few pieces of candy one day, is still better than feeding them that junk all the time. Improvement not perfection should be my goal for the day.
So now I am researching meal ideas that fit within the guidelines. The kids are getting pretty fed up of eggs for breakfast. With the Whole30 plan it says look at them and meals instead of Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner because it opens up more choices. I do agree but trying to convince the kids that you can eat chicken or a hamburger patty for Meal#1 is more challenging than that sounds, you would think I had grown a third eye. Suggestions welcome! :)
